Choosing a hotel or an apartment can be very risky if proper guidelines are not followed. Whenever I read about the Cecil Hotel story, it sends chills running down my spine. These were stories which could have happened to anyone especially if you do not have the proper knowledge when choosing your hotel accommodation.

The Cecil hotel was constructed in 1924 and was a destination for the business travelers. However, the Cecil hotel harbors a dark past as the reputation began to demise as the Hotel became a notorious den for adulterous couples, drugs, and prostitution. And as such, cases of suicides and other violent deaths on the premises became more frequent. By 1940s to 1950s more suicide had occurred in which the resident referred Cecil as The Suicide den. The first suicide ever recorded in Cecil hotel was when W.K. Norton who consumed some poisonous substance after he has been declared missing for 1 week.

Serial killer, Jack Unterweger would arrange for prostitutes to visit his hotel room by climbing up the fire escape. He would strangle them, and then write articles about it...The Hotel Cecil has a dark past, a den of prostitution and drugs. The Cecil Hotel in downtown also had experienced the most gruesome murder where the guest had complained that the water had a funny taste and smell which was caused by the decomposing body of Elisa lam, a 21 years student in Vancouver who had been touring the city alone. The mystery behind her death is still unsolved as a video surfaced where she was acting erratically before her body was found in the water tank after she had gone missing for two weeks. The suicide and murder never ceased as even a passerby was murdered by the jumping body of Pauline Otton who had a fight with her husband.
